Via the employment of two ED glass elements, color bleeding that is likely to occur around the edges of subjects in high-contrast scenes is effectively compensated.

By effectively compensating sagittal coma flare from the maximum aperture, even small point images at the periphery are faithfully reproduced as point images. A control ring to which M/A, aperture or exposure compensation can be assigned using the camera is incorporated. Assigning functions to the control ring provides new, smooth operability without using the main command dial or sub-command dial. Also, the control ring can be operated even when the lens hood is reversely attached.

Dust- and drip-resistant capability* is achieved with sealing for various sections including movable parts of the lens barrel to prevent dust or water droplets from entering the body.

Thanks to a diaphragm blade unit with driving mechanism employed on the lens body, the camera can accurately control aperture via electronic signals. This delivers stable aperture control (AE) constantly, even during continuous shooting.
